Casio Rock Review

Today we’re going to take a look at the Casio G’zOne Rockfor Verizon Wireless. If there is any phone we offer that is meant to go anywhere, this is that phone. Upon handling it feels heavier than most other flip phones, but for good reason. It feels tough, and that is exactly what it is. On the outside it has a rubberized case and where there isn’t rubber is super tough plastic. On the front it has a basic display, much like what you would see on a digtal watch, that displays the time and date along with battery life and reception as well as touch sensitive controls for your music.

Along the right side we find the charger port and USB port, on the left we find the Headphone jack, push to talk button, volume controls and a button that changes it’s mode, which we’ll talk about in a bit. On the back we find the super tough battery plate and 2MP camera with flash. When open it up, and as you can see there is a cool flip button on the right that flips it open, we see a 2.1 inch color display and phone buttons that give a military kind of feel.

You want to go mountain climbing? You can do that with this phone. Do you want to know if it’s low tide or high tide, good thing you have this phone. How about a walking counter? Thermometer? Astro calendar? This phone has so many outdoors modes under it’s G’gear button that any hiker, surfer, camper or mountain climber would love to have. Not only is this phone fitted with software for outdoors, it’s fitted itself with the hardware to take it. It has been tested with military standards for shock, water, humidity, dust, solar radiation, altitude, you name it. Not only that, you can hold down the speaker button to turn your phone into a flashlight, something typically only found on smart phones with a downloaded app. The camera isn’t that bad for a phone jammed with so many features, I wouldn’t use this for big events, but while outside this can take some decent pictures at 2MP, with a few more options than the typical flip phone.

The Casio Rock for Verizon Wireless is the ultimate in outdoors ready flip phones. It’s tough, tested tough and feels tough. It has great applications, built in, for keeping up to date with where you are, what you’re doing and what you may be up against depending on what outdoors activity you’re doing. The added bonus of being a 3G capable phone makes this the perfect flip phone for someone who wants it all, but doesn’t want a smart phone. Someone who wants a phone that can almost survive anything, and begs to be tested on that claim.
